"Here's A Visualization Exercise You
Can Do At Home or Anywhere."
by Dr. Dolores Seymour, Msc.D., Ph.D.
Close your eyes gently and imagine that you're standing on a high hill,
watching in the valley below, the progress of a flowing stream
with all of its twists and turns, at some points turbulant and at other
points calm and tranquil. In your mind's eye, view this wonder of nature
which reminds you of your own life - the years, the months all flowing
together, just like the stream in this never-ending process... ceaselessly
and with a purpose, but always going forward. As you compare your life
to this flowing stream, you realize that the mistakes, the fears,
the hurts of yesterday, are all as nothing in this ceaseless flowing of life.
Imagine yourself as simply growing, learning, following a pattern that,
although you cannot see, is gradually emerging and moving forward.
Any happenings that may appear tragic now cannot and do not affect
this ceaseless flowing of life as it flows from the past and is absorbed
into the future. In this imagery, you realize that the fears of yesterday
are not nearly as important as they were then and next year and the year
after that, they'll become even less and less important. Todays' worries
will also become less and less important and they too will pass.
As you're swept into this beautiful scene of nature, you realize that
your problems are challenges that you can choose to turn into
golden opportunities, flowing into your own positive stream of life.
Looking at life as a flowing stream enables you to be more and more
aware that there are no failures, but only the flowing of one experience
into another when you let go and "go with the flow." And now, slowly
open your eyes and hang on to this peaceful feeling. You can learn more
